Information Technology
Computers figure so heavily in our daily lives that it is difficult to understand why early computer experts did not foresee much demand for these specialized machines. For example, in the 1940s, the chairman of IBM thought a total of five machines could be sold worldwide. Since then, a succession of breakthroughs has created a new economic sector: Information Technologies (IT) - the ever growing variety of ways in which we are able to gather, store, analyze, share, and display information.

Minicomputer
A minicomputer (colloquially, mini) is a class of multi-user computers that lies in the middle range of the computing spectrum, in between the largest multi-user systems (mainframe computers) and the smallest single-user systems (microcomputers or personal computers). The class at one time formed a distinct group with its own hardware and operating systems, but the contemporary term for this class of system is midrange computer, such as the higher-end SPARC, POWER and Itanium -based systems from Sun Microsystems, IBM and Hewlett-Packard.

Brief History of the Microcomputer, A
The "Chips" That Started it All
Micro-Chip
All microcomputers use a processor called a mirco-chip. This is typically a small square sliver of silicon (glass) with pathways etched on it via a chemical process. These pathways can be transistors or simply "wires" that connect the transistors. If you can pack enough of these transistors on the silicon "die" then those transistors can become a processing unit, memory, and a calculator. The entire thing is called an "integrated circuit."

History of Microcomputers - "Important Date" Stones 1971- l981, The
The microcomputer revolution changed our lives…the way we live, work and almost everything we do. Has it made our lives better? Well, yes and no -- it depends on how you measure the effect and what “better” really means to you. If better is a simpler life, then we would be better off without microcomputers; but then we would not have the thousands of gadgets we like/love: cellphones; I-pods; websites with blogs and e-commerce; modern medicine; automatic kitchen appliances; GPS navigation devices in our cars… and the list just goeson and on… it is endless.

History Of IT Sector In India Before 1991
In 1965, immigration laws in USA were modified and the restrictions on immigrants were reduced considerably. As a result a lot of Indian professionals migrated for research opportunities in USA. The IT revolution in USA and the much fancied Silicon Valley in the US during the 80s and 90s could not have been possible without the work of these migrated Indians. What this migration did for the Indian IT industry was creating innumerable opportunities in the USA in the IT sector. Due to the fast growing IT sector in USA, there was a need for IT professionals outside USA. India had a huge number of educated people and the education in India being in English, there was a large population of English speaking technically strong people in India. Hence outsourcing of work started gaining momentum and this led to the huge boom in the IT sector in India, whose most of the work is exporting software and software services to the US and other overseas clients.
