Bio/Description
Pioneer in research on wireless sensor networks and pervasive and mobile computing, Das has served as the Daniel St. Clair Endowed Chair Professor and chair of the Computer Science department at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla, Missouri, since September 2013. He also served the U.S. National Science Foundation as a Program Director in the division of Computer Networks and Systems from 2008 to 2011. His research interests include wireless and sensor networks, mobile and pervasive computing, smart environments and smart health care, pervasive security, biological networking, applied graph theory and game theory.
From July 1988 to July 1999, Das was a Professor at the University of North Texas. From August 1999 to August 2013, he served as Distinguished Scholar Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Founding Director of the Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking at the University of North Texas at Arlington. He graduated 28 Ph.D., 26 M.S., and 5 B.S. honors students.
He received his B.S. degree in Computer Science in 1983 from Calcutta University, his M.S. degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in 1984, and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 1988.
Das has served on the editorial staff of several publications, including as Founding Editor-in-Chief of the "Pervasive and Mobile Computing" journal (Elsevier, from 2004); Associate Editor of ACM "Transactions on Sensor Networks" from 2014; and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing from 2003 to 2011 and from 2014 onward. He has also served on the editorial boards of ACM/Springer Wireless Networks Journal, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computer Communications, Journal on Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications, and Journal on Self Computing.
He has published over 650 papers, gathering 19,000+ citations according to Google Scholar, along with 50 invited book chapters. One of the most prolific authors in the world of computer science according to DBLP, his h-index reached 67. In addition, Das authored or co-authored the following books: with S. Roy, Principles of Cyber-Physical Systems: An Interdisciplinary Approach, Cambridge University Press, 2014; with D. J. Cook, Smart Environments: Technology, Protocols and Applications, John Wiley, 2005; with K. Kant and N. Zhang, Handbook on Securing Cyber-Physical Critical Infrastructure: Foundations and Challenges, Morgan-Kauffman, Feb 2012; and with J. Cao, Mobile Agents in Networking and Distributed Computing (Wiley Series in Agent Technology), John Wiley, July 2012.
He holds several U.S. Patents, including: Patent #6,330,451, Title: Selectively Delaying Data Communications in a Wireless Communication System to Provide Voice Communications Capacity, Issued 12/11/2001; Patent #6,992,994, Title: Methods and Systems for a Generalized Mobility Solution Using a Dynamic Tunneling Agent, Issued 1/31/2006; Patent #6,992,995, Title: Telecommunication Enhanced Mobile IP Architecture for Intra-Domain Mobility, Issued 1/31/2006; Patent #7,873,727, Title: System and Method for Evaluating Streaming Multimedia Quality, Issued 1/18/2011; and Patent #7,904,086, Title: Method and Computer Program for Handoff of Mobile Devices between Wireless Systems, Issued 03/08/2011.
