Best known for creating River Raid (1982), the vertically scrolling shooter for the Atari 2600 released through Activision, Shaw is regarded as a pioneering figure in video game design. She joined Atari, Inc. in 1978, where she designed several titles including 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe (1978) and Video Checkers (1980), both developed for the Atari VCS before the platform was renamed the 2600. She left Atari in 1980 and departed game development entirely in 1984, retiring in 1990.
