We live in an age of 24-hour news cycles, with unlimited access to content and information becoming stale within minutes of being released, where key news must be boiled down to 140-character tidbits or 1-minute videos. The focus on speed and brevity has decreased the ability to complete investigative journalism and the time and space required to truly explain a story. As news now flows from an endless list of sources including networks, cable TV, newspapers, websites, bloggers, Twitter and Facebook it's difficult to determine who to trust and what to believe. As we've seen from the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, Brexit, and other global events the climate in which we live is divisive, with claims of 'fake news' and media manipulation being stated by numerous political parties and their leaders. That's why we've created Rate a Reporter. This webpage is designed to help rank the various news media sources based on several key criteria so that we can try to get an idea of who to trust for our news. It may be someone you already follow, or could be a network, reporter, or source you've never heard of before. It may be from your local municipality or it could be from a country half a world away. This isn't a popularity contest, it's focused on determining which individuals and teams provide the information without bias or subjectivity, subject matter experts that dig deeper to get the truth, while providing factual information that supports the story. We don't want to create more division between the left and right, we want to arm people with the information they need to make decisions to educate themselves on the global, national and local issues that affect them.
