Raima was founded in 1982 and pioneered embedded database research and development. The first version of dbVista was released in 1984 and quickly grew to serve customers like Hewlett Packard, IBM and NASA. As demand for embedded database functionality increased, a client-server version called Velocis was introduced in 1993. The products were later renamed Embedded (formerly dbVista) and RDM Server (formerly Velocis).
The original founders, Randy Merilatt and Wayne Warren are still with the company today.
