Company Description
We are America's independent, non-partisan consumer watchdog. We look out for you when Washington doesn't.
Protect America’s Consumers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting American citizens and their hard-earned financial resources. The group seeks to inspire reform in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, so that it might cease unfair practices and go back to helping the American people. Created in 2011, Congress established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to educate citizens about how to take more control of personal finance via education. Unfortunately, the agency suffers from a complete lack of oversight. The CFPB answers to nobody – not even the President. This reality has created an untenable situation, wherein the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can do whatever it wants while enjoying unwavering funding from the American taxpayer. The CFPB's creation was authorized by the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, whose passage in 2010 was a legislative response to the financial crisis of 2007–08 and the subsequent Great Recession. The CFPB was initially established as an independent agency but it effectively became an executive agency after a federal appeals court found that the President of the United States' power to remove the CFPB Director had been unconstitutionally limited. Protect America’s Consumers works to shine a light on the abusive practices and address the scandal and corruption that plague the CFPB. Created to serve and protect the American people, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has devolved into a travesty.
