A Swallowable Disposable Capsule for Phototherapy

Photopill is a disposable swallowable electronic capsule that delivers non-chemical therapy to the GI tract as it passes through. The capsule is used for treating IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Diseases) flare-ups, Crohn's Disease in particular. It is a first of its kind device for IBD therapeutics with the potential to become the most efficient treatment of IBD patients and the first solution preventing future IBD outbursts. The PhotoPill requires no preparation procedure, no external steering or imaging of the treated area. The PhotoPill capsule emits specific light protocols, to stimulate mucosal healing and reduce inflammation. PhotoPill uses a LED based non-thermal, non-ionizing light wavelengths, to illuminate the inflamed intestine walls.
