Our mission is to create deeper ties to Oakland’s diverse perspectives by telling stories, shining light on key issues and being a catalyst for community. We are journalists, storytellers, artists, business owners, innovators, organizers, advocates and neighbors. Oakland Local and its team are dedicated to telling stories that should be told – but are usually not. Founded in 2009, as a response to the lack of diverse and inclusive media covering the murder of Oscar Grant, Oakland Local delivers clear, objective, non-partisan news and research. We investigate Oakland Police Department civil-rights lawsuits, chronicle the thriving local technology and innovation ecosystem via Live Work Oakland, and are a voice for those who are traditionally not heard.
