Russ Crupnick is Managing Partner of MusicWatch, Inc. a company dedicated to marketing research and industry analysis for the music and entertainment industry. MusicWatch evolved from services formerly offered by the NPD Group, where Russ served in several executive roles. As President of NPD Entertainment Russ founded the company’s entertainment practice in 2000, leading the team that created NPD’s MusicWatch suite of research services, which initially focused on the world of physical music marketing and distribution. He further developed NPD’s entertainment services by adding a concentration on home video, as DVD became the standard for home entertainment. In 2003 Russ was named president of NPD’s Digital Insights business unit and developed industry leading meter-based and custom consumer research centered on understanding the emerging digital music and video environments. Over the years Russ expanded NPD’s practice with additional tracking of consumer trends in high definition media, cross-entertainment, social networking, device usage, and connectivity. At NPD he served as the senior entertainment industry analyst where he developed an international reputation for insights into entertainment trends and provided guidance and industry analysis to NPD’s clients and the media.
