Financial backers include Atlas Venture, Bertelsmann Ventures, Bonaventure Investments Ltd and Universal Music Group. Prior to its fall 2000 launch, musicbank has secured licensing agreements with BMG Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, and an exclusive retail partnership with Virgin Megastores. Michael Downing and Pierce Ledbetter founded musicbank in 1999. The Company is based in San Francisco.
