In 1980, MicroAge opened the first computer store located in a mall in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The store sold computers popular in the early home computer age, such as the Apple II, Northstar, Imsai and Altair computers. In present day, the company’s top partners include HP, Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, Lenovo, EMC and Symantec. In 2014, MicroAge was ranked #183 on the CRN Solutions Provider 500 list, an annual ranking of the top IT companies in North America. In 2013, the company was honored by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of the fifteen Best Places To Work in Phoenix. MicroAge was founded in 1976 by Jeffrey D. McKeever and Alan P. Hald as a hobby computer store named The Byte Shop. The company is based in Tempe, Arizona, United States.
