Ionscope Limited, headquartered near Cambridge UK, is the world-leading manufacturer in the field of Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopy (SICM), a rapidly emerging Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) technique which allows mapping of the surface topography of a sample at nanoscale resolution without making contact with it. SICM allows development scientists to study surfaces and membrane structures in live organisms, monitor cell volumes, and deliver materials (such as drug candidates) in order to monitor reactions. It has been used to study kidney disease, cardiac disease, and cystic fibrosis as well as to characterise electrode topography and ion currents in rechargeable batteries. The Ionscope site includes a research and development facility, a research and testing laboratory area, and a production area for manufacturing and assembling components of the microscope.
