The Company operates in two segments: Equipment and Intevac Photonics. The Company is engaged in the design, development and marketing of magnetic media processing systems to the hard drive industry, and offers technology solutions to the PV and semiconductor industries. Under its Intevac Photonics segment, the Company is engaged in the development and manufacture of imaging products and vision systems, as well as table-top and handheld Raman instruments. During the year ended December 31, 2009, Intevac announced a thin film solar cell manufacturing system for PV applications, LEAN SOLAR. In December 2010, the Company acquired Solar Implant Technologies.
