Alchemy specialises in investing in distressed and undervalued or underperforming businesses and other special situations through debt and equity across Europe. The team is experienced in the acquisition of distressed debt, leading restructurings and refinancings and providing equity for buy-outs. Funding is provided by a large number of blue-chip investors including major banks, pension funds, fund-of-funds, university endowments and high net worth individuals. The firm currently manages/advises over £1.5bn of assets. In January 1997, Alchemy was formed in London with a focus on private equity and distressed investing. Since inception the firm has invested £3bn in over 130 transactions. Investments have been made across Europe into a broad range of sectors and throughout capital structures. The team currently advises over £800m of assets held in the Alchemy Investment Plan and manages over £700m of assets in the Alchemy Special Opportunities funds. Alchemy is currently investing from its £500m Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund II, raised in March 2011.
